In other words, by rewarding customers for spending their hard-earned money with you, the following situation has been established: they'll only be loyal to you IF they are rewarded monetarily, which means that they can be bought-off by a competitor who offers them a better reward.

Wouldn't it be better to establish a relationship based on being attracted to you for your knowledge and extraordinary customer service AND your overwhelming appreciation of them whether they buy from you or not?
